Choraphor
is a herbal ointment containing sulfur and St John’s wort.
St John’s wort has antiviral and wound healing properties.
Sulfur has been used for centuries to heal all sorts of skin diseases.
However, these ingredients don't seem to be the most potent available.
When I first reviewed this OTC herpes treatment, I was concerned by the safety of their sulphur compound, copper
sulphate. I asked them if their product was safe and contained
copper sulphate. Here was their answer:
"The ingredients in Choraphor have been
safety tested and found to be harmless to the skin. The ingredients
in Choraphor have also been formulated to the standards of "The
International Standards for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and
Poisons" which govern what is acceptable to be used as a
topical medication.
This patented formulation of natural ingredients was developed
in 1997 and has since helped tens of thousands of people suffering
from the inconveniences of herpes outbreaks."
Copper sulfate can be severely irritating to the
skin and cause irreparable damage when ingested. However copper
sulfate is mostly harmful when ingested or inhaled but not on the
skin in small quantities. Dosage is a very important factor to consider.
A small amount of an ingredient can be a medicine and a big amount
of the same ingredient a poison. That's the case for arsenic for
example. Choraphor contains very small dosage of copper sulfate,
small enough not to be harmful. They've been around since 1997.
I think the FDA would have had plenty of time to retrieve their
product if it was very dangerous. I usually see online or OTC genital
herpes remedies vanish in less than a year when they don't comply
with FDA safety measures. So I consider their long-term presence
as a safety guarantee.
Besides that, I have read and heard very good reviews
about Choraphor. It doesn't seem to be able to stop herpes
blisters from appearing. It helps broken genital herpes blisters
heal faster. Some say that it alleviates the pain associated with
genital herpes outbreaks. Also, many say that once applied on a
sore, it stings a lot but subsequent outbreaks are much milder or
appear in a different spot.
This product seems to yield very different results
from person to person ranging from dreadful to wonderful. In my
opinion it should be used only on a short term basis during genital
herpes outbreaks and be avoided during pregnancy. It is the last
of OTC remedies for genital herpes that I've listed here but I think
it is interesting because so many people report milder herpes outbreaks
after using Choraphor.

Its manufacturer used to be Global Herbal Supplies®. Choraphor is only sold by CPP Labs now. I don't want to stand between both companies. However I've known Global Herbal Supplies long and I know they treat their customers properly. I cannot say anything about CPP Labs.
Your Choraphor Reviews and Feedback *:
... For choraphor, apply that in the same way you would the H-away, even if the blister isn't open you can twist the cue-tip so that it opens the sore and the topical agent gets into the dermis and attacks the virus. (careful on the strength of application, directions say to dilute it by soaking the cuetip in water before application, thats up to you and how dosage concentration affects you..) You will, within minutes get a scab (and feel a tremendous stinging sensation). The problem is that you have to keep the scab dry and keep it from coming off, which is close to impossible, so when it does come off you have worry about an open wound that might leave a scar. In any case both products worked for me. The smell is strong for the H-away/ H-prevention, so just wear more cologne lol. Furthermore, keep a healthy diet and stay out of trouble.

I agree totally with C from the US. I've used this twice, and although it allows the sores to crust over quickly, it seems to make them expand, last longer and you end up with scars which I never had before. I'll not be using it again. High dose Garlic and Vitamin C do seem keep the formation of the sores at bay though.

I tried this remedy on my sores after outbreak and the pain was so great, I thought I would have to go to the hospital. I tried to endure it for a while, but after 10 minutes of crying, I had to use warm water to try to remove it. I tried again during another outbreak and had the same results, it was really awful and a waste of my money and hope.

Used over the course of several breakouts. My results have not been good with this treatment. As it warns, it hurts quite a bit - more than just a stinging sensation. I have not noticed fewer breakouts after having used Choraphor - this was the primary reason I chose this med. I think it makes the condition worse - definitely impeded the healing process and has largely contributed to scarring (I had never had scars before using it). I will never use it again.
