Releev for Cold Sores

Releev OTC remedy for cold sores

Releev for cold sores uses the power of benzalkonium chloride to treat cold sores locally. As you may have seen on my general page about OTC cold sore medicine, there has been some in vitro and animal studies that suggest benzalkonium chloride as a potential treatment for herpes. You can find abstracts of many of them on PubMed by typing the research words "benzalkonium chloride" and "herpes". Actually the abstract of the study used to promote ViraMedx Releev for cold sores can be found there. If you want to take a look at it Click here. It consisted in an in vitro test designed to evaluate the efficacy of viracea, i.e. a blend of benzalkonium chloride and phytochemicals derived from Echinacea purpurea created by ViraMedx. They claimed that their product was effective on acyclovir (usually know under the brand name Zovirax) resistant strains of the herpes virus. In other words, they claimed that Releev could treat certain strains of herpes virus zovirax could not. Now GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of zovirax is suing them. Tough is the world of pharmaceuticals.

Is Releev for cold sores really efficient?

Well, it contains viracea, water, Benzalkonium chloride, preservatives and a gelling agent. So there are no hidden active ingredients besides viracea. There is insufficient data supporting Echinacea purpurea potential as a treatment for herpes and cold sores. According to worldwide recent research Benzalkonium chloride could be active as a topical agent against herpes.

My conclusion: Releev for cold sores is fairly safe for adults and has a good potential to treat and prevent cold sores. But always check with your doctor to see if it is compatible with other treatments you may be taking.

If I apply it when the first stinging/burning starts, it either completely stops the blister from forming, or makes them much smaller and faster healing. The key is repeated applications during the burning phase. Has made a tremendous difference for me.

I tried Releeve after spending too much money on numerous tubes of that "OTHER" cold sore remedy..you know the REALLY expensive one that NEVER worked!!

Well, to my suprise, within two days my cold sore was COMPLETELY gone!
Releev was inexpensive where I purchased it and the only small
complaint I had was the applying it three times a day (sometimes I completely
forgot to apply it)but it still did the job.

I bought Releev, not because I knew what it was, but I figured it was the most expensive cold sore medication I saw in Kmart, and I wondered why is that and I've never heard of it. So my curious mind bought Releeve and wasn't disappointed. Usually when I have a cold sore it lasts between 5-7 days depending on if I have one or a cluster breakout. However, I used Releev and it was gone within 2 days.Wonderful.

Worked on my cold sores FAR better than
abreva. Abreva does nothing for me except irritating my lips so that all of
lips are irritated in addition to cold sore. First time I used Releev, it was
from blister stage and my cold sore was gone in 3days. It usually takes me 10
days from initial itching for my cold sore to be gone, abreva didn't help, but
releev actually shortened that duration to 5 days total, with most of pain and
blisters gone by 4th day! True it doesn't stop cold sore from forming (However
Releev doesn't claim to do it, abreva falsely advertises that it can it but it
really can't). Releev drastically decreases the healing time and discomfort
from cold sore.

There is no cure for cold sores or colds, but Releev is the best treatment so
far on the market!!

Worked as advertised. Applied 3 times the day that blisters started to develop and it stopped them from developing further and fully healed in two additional days. I will test it when I start to feel a tingle the next time to determine its prevention capabilities.
